Five patterns — peacocks, grazing gazelles, pomegranate blossom and the Tree of Life — each outlined in black by one painter, filled in by hand and fired to 1000°C on a lead-free glaze. Large enough to hold the middle of a dining table on its own, and food-safe enough to fill with fruit.

Food-Safe, Lead-Free, and Made to Be Used
Every bowl is made in our own workshop from white-firing clay imported from Europe, then fired at high temperature so the colours stay bright for decades. We use lead-free glazes only, so a Balian bowl is safe for food — fruit on the kitchen counter, salad at the table, or nothing at all but its own painting.
Each piece is signed on the base and no two are identical. The bowl that arrives will carry the pattern you chose, with the small variations that come from a human hand rather than a machine.

A Large Ceramic Fruit Bowl That Doubles as a Centerpiece
At 14.5 inches across, this is a bowl that fills the middle of a table on its own. Left empty it reads as a painting seen from above; filled with oranges, pomegranates or lemons it becomes the reason people sit down. It works just as well on a kitchen island, a console or a coffee table — and because the glaze is lead-free, it can be used for salad or pasta at dinner and go back to being a centerpiece afterwards.
How big should a centerpiece bowl be?
For a dining table seating six to eight, a bowl between 13 and 15 inches wide reads as a centerpiece rather than a serving dish, and still leaves room for plates. Our 14.5 in (37Â cm) bowl sits at the top of that range and is the largest we make. On a smaller table, or if you want a pair, the 13 in (33Â cm) bowls are the better fit.

Are the bowls dishwasher safe?
We recommend washing by hand with warm water and a soft cloth. Hand-painted glaze survives a lifetime of gentle washing; repeated dishwasher cycles are not worth the risk on a piece like this.

Do you make custom colours or patterns?
Yes. Tell us the palette or the motif you have in mind and we will tell you what is possible and what it costs. The minimum order for custom work is the same as for anything else.
