Founder & Master Potter
Neshan Balian Sr., born in Kutahya, was a master potter and founder of the Armenian Ceramics of Jerusalem. He was brought over to Jerusalem with three other families for the renovation of the Dome of the Rock tiles in Jerusalem. His expertise was in the manufacturing of clays, glazes, kiln building, ceramic colors, and last but not least, the production of the pottery by means of throwing on the wheel and pressing.

Master Potter
A master potter and ceramic technician, trained at the renowned Wichcombe Pottery in England under the tutelage of Ray Finch, a world-famous potter. He carried on his father Neshan's legacy while establishing the Middle East's first industrial ceramic factory in Jordan, producing clay products such as bricks, clay pies, and roof tiles. Alongside his wife Marie Balian, he further elevated the Balian Studio of Jerusalem to international acclaim, continuing the work of his father, Neshan Balian.

Born in Marseille, France, and educated at the Beaux-Arts de Lyon, she became Setrag Balian Sr.'s wife. Joining the Studio in 1963, she revolutionized Armenian Ceramics of Jerusalem, moving beyond the static, repetitive nature of traditional patterns to embrace a dynamic, free-flowing artistic approach. Her and Setrag's combined works have been exhibited in prestigious museums worldwide, including the Smithsonian and the Victoria & Albert.
